Construction / tuning: Out of the box and in 30 minutes at the flying field. Almost... All rc-equipment is installed and ready for use (BEC, motors, cables, servos and their extension cables, etc.) - except the receiver. This you need to attach to a location under the wings by a velcro tape and connect all plugs in the right bay. Most parts of the plane are assembled and you only need to glue the elevator and rudder in place - attach the push rods to the rudders trim all rudders and charge your battery (which most probably will take longer then the final assembly of the plane). Finally check all rudders and their direction (as usual I needed to revers the elevator and rudder on my Futaba remote). The only change I made during the entire building of this plane was that I dipped the wing-fuselage cable bridge into plastidip - but carefull that the connections remain outside and still accessible. This shall prevent the issues mentioned in several internet forums that the solderings break after 10 or 20 flights. Then adjust the CG by moving your battery so that the plane balances nicely with the nose slightly angled down (10 - 20 degrees max) Flight Experience: A beautiful day end of May 2012 gave the opportunity to take the Twin Star 2 RR for its first flight. The sun was shining, but the wind was blowing quite strong - see also the video. There was absolutely no surprise with this plane. Steadily (only shake by the wind) it climbed up and actually I was surprised that the two brushed motors did not have much difficulty with this plane. I expected worse. At the end of the day I decided to have some fun with my kids and we taped one of their small throw planes at various locations of the Twin Star2. Cool! See for yourself the 2nd video! Soon my kids will be training on this plane two. Update: ... still to come! |
